Perhaps I could have used a different title, as I suspect this one just ruins the whole theme. That's the challenge with titling. Some puzzles only work with a title, other's (like themelesses) don't need them at all. Perhaps I should have gone with yet another example of this theme's wordplay. No matter. For those keeping tabs at home, 53-Across was the starting point, and for whatever reason, 38-Across still makes me laugh.
