NOTE: When the puzzle is completed, read the letters in the even-numbered squares to find a quote from Steven Spielberg.PROGRAM: [Java] Tip of the hat to Crossword Jesus Patrick Berry for steering me away from a much more ridiculous idea for a puzzle to the one I ended up with today. Will his wonders never cease? Let's hope not.
So, earlier this year, Liz and I had decided we were going to watch all the films on the British Film Institute's Greatest Films poll. I'll be the first to say I'm film-illiterate, so I hadn't heard of most of those films on that list. Liz had seen very few as well. So far, we've managed to just see one, "Citizen Kane." First time for her; well over a decade since I saw it last. "Vertigo" will be next whenever we have a couple of hours to spare (also first time for Liz, whereas I saw it last, oh, about 15 years ago). And after looking at my calendar, the next open date appears to be sometime in July 2015. I think that this film project has shades of my other pet project of finishing all those difficult books that I know I'll never get around to. But we live in constant hope. I'd like to add that Liz would rather get extensive dental work without Novocaine than watch "2001," so that one's going to be a tough sell. And as for me, frankly, it's next-to-impossible to take lists like these seriously when there's not one Spielberg movie on them. Hey, but maybe that's why I'm film-illiterate.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
