Talk about your blasts from the past. David Steinberg brought this classic Games magazine article by Eric Albert on computer-assisted crossword construction to my attention this weekend. Albert, unfortunately, isn't talked about too much nowadays, which is a shame because he was a true trailblazer back in the day. Not only with revolutionizing how computers can be used to make top-flight puzzles, but also with creating some truly jaw-dropping meta crosswords for the old Dell Champion magazine. He's also a very engaging writer (check out this article about the MIT Puzzle Hunt when you have a chance, too). Glad to see this making the rounds again.
