When people find out I write crossword puzzles, there's an avalanche of questions that generally follow. Here's a sampling with the stock answer: "How did you get into that line of work?" ("I didn't go looking for this career, puzzlemaking found me") "Do you know Will Shortz?" ("Who doesn't?") and "Is it okay if I say I want to kill you?" ("I know kung fu and I'm not afraid to use it") And of course, there's the classic: "Do you write the clues first or the grid?" We've covered that question many, many, many times before. But I'll say this, today's puzzle went title first, then theme, then grid, then clues. And scene.
