If I haven't already, I should say a big thank you to Peter Gordon. As far as I can tell, he's the first constructor to use this basic black and white pattern for themelesses. It's no fun trying to build puzzles with flashy 12-letter seed entries because of the three forced black squares in the grid construction. That said, this grid accomodates two of them rather nicely while allowing for a lot of room to put other fun entries. It's easily one of my favorite stock grids to work with.
