PRINTOUT PUZZLE: [ FROM A TO Z]
PROGRAM: [Adobe Acrobat]
Oh, you were wondering about the results of the contest?
Solvers of last Thursday's puzzle found the following riddle: THE LAST NAME OF / WHAT VP SPANS THE / FULL NAME OF THE / PRESIDENT UNDER / WHICH HE SERVED? The veep in question was none other than Hannibal Hamlin, Abraham Lincoln's first vice president. You might have heard of his other one, some Andrew Johnson guy. Our contest this go around set the new high water mark for entries at 126, 111 of those being correct.
Some weird interpretation of the question led more than a few of those incorrect answers to say Jefferson spanned, that is too say, ran longer than, the name of his President: John Adams. And I should say that few cried foul that the riddle should have said WHOM instead of WHICH. What can I say? I speak English like it's a foreign language.
As is the case with all BEQ.com contests, we have two winners: one randomly selected winner and the most creative entry. Let's start with the latter. Sadly, there were no pizzas delivered with the answer this time around. No skywriters. No mysterious notes sent to me via singing telegrams. Nothing really out of the ordinary. What happened? Is it the summer? Are you all just not feeling very creative? Admittedly, I wasn't giving you much to work with with ole' Hannibal Hamlin. Don't let me down next time, you hear?
Our creative winner this time goes to Brendan Kelly of Parts Unknown who sent the above doctored portrait which made me laugh. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Hannibal Hamlin did ask to be my Facebook friend and Twitter follower. Cute stuff Eric Maddy and Sarah Morayati, respectively.
Our contest winner is Jerry aka "Mayven46" also of Parts Unknown (I don't think that's your real last name, but that's what yr. e-mail said. Update to follow.) Congrats to Brendan and Jerry who will get whatever they want from the BEQ Gift Shoppe. Thanks to all who competed.
If you didn't win this time, would still like some free stuff from the Gift Shoppe, and enjoyed the puzzles this past month (lots of qualifiers, I know), please consider hitting up the tip jar. A small donation of any amount ($10, $20, $50) goes a long way to keeping this site running smoothly. And as always, I will give one randomly selected donor whatever they want from the BEQ Gift Shoppe as a thank you.
