But first, how about them NBA playoffs? Good stuff, even if the villains are up 2-1 in the Finals. Now if you like solving Brendan Emmett Quigley puzzles, you know that I like to go with the high percentage marquee answer, oftentimes at 1-Across. You know that it's going to be something you haven't seen before. You know that there will probably be some kind of alphabet soup happening along the perimeter of the grid. And you know that it's probably going to be something to do with sports, indie rock, or a name in the news. I have to say I like what I'm doing with this grid as I'm attacking it from both 1-Across and 69-Across. By starting with these answers, I'm guaranteeing I can go about having a fresh approach to the Themeless form, and therefore creating an opportunity for the solver to appreciate the solving experience.
I will say this, though: While I was making last Thursday's puzzle, I gave upwards of two hours of thought into trying to build a puzzle around the 69-Across answer. It seems like it was screaming to be made fun of. But, then, on the other hand, it felt like I'd already done this one before with the Brett Favre/Jenn Sterger sexting scandal.
If anyone has any brilliant new ideas how to make a 69-Across themed puzzle, let me know. Since the story refuses to die, there might be a puzzle there still.
Thanks to all who've chipped in to get the never-before published 21x themeless. There's still plenty of time to get your copy. Read about the puzzle here.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
