It's awards season, and crosswords are no exception. Why this very blog has already taken an
Oryx, the year-end accolade awarded by crossword bloggers Amy Reynaldo (mostly) and Rex Parker (occasionally). Well, what do we have here? Looks like the ole' Biz Quig is up for another Oryx. Specifically, my "
Raising Your Spirits" in up for the
Crossword of the Year. Stiff competition in there, though if asked I'd say the favorite out of the bunch has to be El Blindito's "Making Faces." One of those themes that I'd wished I'd thought of. But hey, it's an honor to be nominated. I'd like to think of myself as the "Moneyball" of puzzledom, both in terms of the Billy Beane practice, and the movie that's been nominated for a bunch of stuff that has zero chance of winning.
The awards will be given out this Sunday. No doubt EW.com will be live blogging the awards.
Also, for those who missed, I wrote a Marching Bands for the New York Times yesterday. You can do it here. Regulars of this site know that I really like my Marching Band puzzles. Hopefully you do too.
