THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
For those of you who are keeping score, this past Saturday marked the 25th anniversary of my first ever published crossword (in the New York Times, no less). That means I have been doing this for a very long time. I don’t think I’ve done anything else consistently for 25 years. What a trip it’s been. Let’s do another 25, shall we?
Announcement, if you’re still doing that whole virtual crossword tournament thing, there’s Lollapuzzoola in a few weekends. Tell ’em Brendan sent ya.
Looking for more puzzles? The Hub Crossword (Sunday puzzles by me and Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon) and Marching Bands year seven have begun. So if that To Do list needs even more puzzles, you know what to do.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Happy silver anniversary – and in the New York Times.
wow, felicidades!!
thanks for many years of providing great puzzles
best wishes for the next 25 yrs
a long time fan
Well since I’ve about to reaxch my 44th anniversary of solving (but not even ever constructing a crossword puzzle), I have considered estimating just how many CWPs I’ve done by a myriad Cruciverbalists. Only God can count all that accurately so gonna have to guestimate. Might be 10 CVists whose puzzles I’ve solved may have exceeded 2500 which should include BEQ and FL. Might be 3 CVists whose puzzles exceed 5000. One of these could be the pairing of Cox and Rathvon. Another could be Merl Reagle. Another could be Stanley Newman. Anyway the enthusiasm for solving hasn’t dampened one iota.
Congratulations!
Congrats!!!
I went back to the archives and found it. It is definitely you! Maybe a bit muted.
Once all of Will Shortz’s NY Times puzzles became available in the archive, I went back and did them all when I was unemployed for a long stretch. It looks like I did that puzzle in 6:36!!! A *FAR* better time than I can achieve now. Multiple puzzles a day and better eyesight sure does make one a good puzzler.
Congratulations, Brendan o’ mine! And thank you very much for today’s puzzle, which I enjoyed very much.
BEQ puzzles have always been my favorite. Just went back to the 90’s to do the first one. Does anyone know the other dates? I would love to go back and see how I fare now that I have a few more years experience. Is there a list of the NYT puzzles anywhere? Thank you!
hear, hear!
I came upon BEQ by chance, in mid stream as it were, and waded my way backwards to the first of those accessible (required app changes along the way). I believe it is still doable.
All 1390 puzzles he’s done for us are available on this site. As for his published puzzles, this might help find them: https://www.xwordinfo.com/Thumbs?author=Brendan+Emmett+Quigley&comments=Constructor
I wouldn’t look too closely though as this lists the completed grids. But if you click on any completed grid it will go to a page for that particular puzzle. At the top you’ll see a link for “PDF” and you can download a PDF version.
